Contemporary and Traditional Sweetgrass Baskets

 Traditional sweetgrass baskets include the winnowing (fanner) basket which was used in the harvesting of rice, bread trays, fruit baskets, missionary baskets and other baskets which were round or oval in shape.  More contemporary baskets add new features like twisted handles and braided rims to the traditional pieces.  Other contemporary pieces are door wreaths and square shaped baskets.
